When opening a saved workbook, the Book 1 Workbook does
not close. You have to manually close it before you can
see your workbook. This is happening only on a few
systems, on other systems the workbook opens fine.....This
is a shared network file. We are running Windows 2000
SP4, Office 97. I saw a similar problem in KB172041, but
this doesn't solve my problem. Any help would be
appreciated....

I have to think something like the situation in 172041 is at the bottom of
this. The only workbook that closes automatically when you manually open
your first workbook is the "automatic" workbook. Therefore, if the workbook
is not closed automatically, it is not the automatic workbook.

There must be a Book.xlt or Book1.xls in one of the places Excel
automatically opens workbooks from at startup:

- the XLSTART folder under the Office install folder.
- the XLSTART under c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel
- the folder named under Tools, Options, General, Alternate Startup File
Location (if any).

I'd hunt through those locations and move out any suspicious workbooks.

Jim,

That's the weird thing about this problem....I've searched
the hard drive for book*.* and there is no file......any
ideas? Thanks!
