Blank word document says it is locked-I can't type?

I opened my word document and I couldn't type anything. It says at the
bottom that the modification can't be made because the document is locked.
It says this on every document I have tried to open, including blank
documents. I never locked anything. What do I do?

Have you activated Word? Or is this a trial version that has expired?
