Microsoft word is locked

When trying to type a document it will not allow me. at the bottom of page it
says "this modification is not allowed because selection is locked". what do
I do?

Have you activated the product? Note that if you are using an expired trial
version, it's time to buy a full version.

If you have activated Word, and it still isn't working, try exiting Word and
then renaming the normal.dot (normal.dotm if you are using Word 2007) file.
To locate the file, you can use Windows search. Be sure to to search hidden
files and folders.
