Blank screens in RC1

W

Will Schuitman

I have a Nvidia geforce 6200 agp 256Mb video card installed
with beta2 5384 I had no problems at all with it, Now that I have RC1
installed I occasionally get a blank screen when when browsing webpages that
contain java script.

And when the screen comes back not normal I get a taskbar message saying
that my video adapter has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

Is this a known issue?
are there any fixes for it ?

Are you using the built-in drivers or the ones from Nvidia's website? If you
are using the ones from Nvidia's website uninstall them and try to access
the website again.

I was having this issue with the built in drivers I tried to fix it by
installing the drivers from the nvidia site.
but the problem still persists
it only happens in about 1 in evey 20 pages, rarely twice on the same page
which leads me to believe it may have something to do with the banners on
these pages
for example on page I frequently visit is the TV guide this page displays a
random ad banner every time it loads. In the last 2 days I have visited this
page about 15 times and I have had this issue once on this particular page
and I have had the problem about 5 times on other pages the only thing they
all have in common is that they have random ad banners and contain java
script
and in general it only happens when I use inetrnet explorer. It has never
happened while using other applications.

Its possible you have a missing Java extension why those webpages can't be
viewed. Download the Java SE 6 Runtime which is compatible with Vista RC1,
x86 and x64 versions available:
https://jdk6.dev.java.net/

They can be viewed it's just when they load I get an "unexpected video
adapter shutdown" once it recovers they can be viewed as normal
I'll download and install the java runtime package and see how I go with
that

thank you for the advice

I have java runtime installed now so far no blank screens yet and I have
been able to reproduce the problem so far
I hope this has fixed it
thanks again
