Blank Screen

I was using Vista Ultimate Buid 5744 Beta 2 when I first noticed the problem.
I am now using Vista Home Premium and still occasionally getting the same
problem. This being ; when I first switch on the pc it goes through all the
startup procedure and after the green bars go along the bottom of the screen
the screen just goes blank except for the mouse pointer, the Hd light is
still on. I then have to press the reset button before the desktop appears,
the pc then works okay.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like it could be a BIOS issue. What is your hardware configuration?

I had an issue with an old video driver. Once I updated it, system ran just
fine, but check the BIOS also like the previous poster suggested.

I have been using a Sphire X1600 GFX but that has been returned as faulty and
I am temp.using a friends Radion X300/500 GFX.
Asus P5B MB
Intel Core 2 duo [email protected]
Sata HD's

I would check with both Asus and ATI for driver and BIOS updates. I know
others are using these components successfully. If your HD controller isn't
built-in, check with that manufacturer too.

I had already updated my BIOS to the only one shown on the Asus Site,
however reading the Asus forums for my MB there seems some people who have
later BIOS updates, which are not shown. The GFX has also been updated.
Still the same problems.
