Blank Screen - Blinking Cursor ONLY

Could anyone please help me with this computer?!! I have
found the below listed article at Microsoft but its
solution is not helping me. ( I do have Roxio on this
computer and although I would love to remove its
associated programs - I cannot get into ANY PART OF
WINDOWS to correct or remove this.

"Black Screen with No Cursor During Upgrade from Windows
95/98 - MS Knowledge Base Article 259741

When you upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional from
Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, a black
screen with no cursor may be displayed after you first
restart the computer.

This behavior occurs after you start the upgrade process
and files are copied, followed by the first restart.
After the Power On Self Test (POST) is finished, a black
screen with no cursor is displayed.

This behavior can occur if the GoBack software from Roxio
is installed on the computer. GoBack versions 2.1d and
2.1e are not compatible with Windows 2000."

What is it --- blank screen with or without the cursor? One
cause of upgrade failures is incompatibility with the new OS.
It is always better to install Windows 2000 fresh instead of
upgrading, especially from Windows 9X.

Sorry bout that and THANKS for responding...

this is a G*teway computer that had WIN98 originally on
it. Few months back I upgraded to WIN2K PRO and it had
been running fine.

I have a BLANK SCREEN WITH A BLINKING CURSOR. Seemingly
no ability to get into DOS, Safe Mode, or any of Windows
functionality. It doesn't boot by any method whatsoever.

I have been told by a good friend who is somewhat techie
that I may have had a serious worm and/or malware that
has taken away my administrator rights to the computer
itself. This friend is going to look at the computer
with me today (I hope!).

Wherever I went in the system or whatever I did to
disable "their" stuff in the files - was linked to some
serious truly necessary Windows operating files, and to
my N*rton Antivirus running ability. (

Found some advice from MS KB but can't seem to find my
exact same problem replicated anywhere.
