Blank Monitor on start up

I know there's alot of problems like these on here, but I read through
alot of them and didn't seem to find the solution.
When I plug in the monitor to the computer, the screen goes black, and
the light on the monitor flashes. However, when I disconnect the
monitor, I get the message telling me to check the connection to my
computer.

When I start up the computer, it beeps three times. And about 20
seconds later, it beeps another two times. Is this relevant?

Sounds like it might be your Video Card/Chip when flaky. Doesnt sound
like your Monitor is the problem.

Re; Rich Barry's reply.
Pull out and re-insert your Video card. Do the same with your monitor
plugs. This helps when the printed circuit has a bad contact.
