When I log into Windows XP I get a blank blue screen and nothing else comes
up. I believe that the cause is a virus. Does anyone know how I can get
through the blue screen so that I can access the menus on my computer? Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Why do you think this is caused by a virus? More likely than not, it's
caused by a corrupt or damaged user profile. What happens when you log
in using another user account, such as the built-in Administrator account?

I tried to log on using a different account, but I could not figure out how
to do it. Is there some special technique to doing so. Also, I believe that
it was a virus because right before the screen went completely blank I
started getting a lot of pop ups and my computer was doing strange things and
then I tried cleaning it using Ad-Aware, but shortly thereafter the blank
blue screen appeared.

I believe that it is a virus because when I first started having issues I was
getting a ton of pop ups and my computer was running very slowly and then the
blank blue screen appeared. Could you give me instructions on how to log on
as an administrator? Thank you.

It sounds like you have the wsaupdater issue or something similar. I'll give
you the removal procedure links below. You can clean the machine without
the graphical user interface, but this does require a fair amount of
computer skills.

You cannot log on to Windows XP after you remove Wsaupdater.exe -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892893

Restore Winlogon\Userinit -

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).
