black sreen after W2K install

I upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional from Windows 98,
a black screen with no cursor is displayed after first
restart of the computer.
 
After the first restart during the install? Or the first reboot after the
OS is completely installed? You might need to update the BIOS in the
machine.
