Black Screen when starting winxp-home

a friend of mine has the problem, that his notebook gets
a black screen from the time when starting winxp.
he tryed various ways to fix the problem (like starting
winxp in secure mode and so on, check the bios settings),
but the problem persists.
Before the problem, he's done some installations and gets
a popup like "disable Screen (ore monitore, or
vga, ...)?", which he answered the wrong way.
has anybody an idea?
thanks a lot.
 
What kind of laptop is it? Usually there is a Hotkey such as FN+F5 or
something like that to switch from the monitor on the notebook to an
external source. There may also be a little icon on the keys that
represents it. Check the laptop maker's website/manual too ;)
