I went into msconfig - startup and unchecked Adobe Reader speed
launch, HP Digital Imaging Monitor and HP Image Zone Fast Start as I
don't use the HP programs and rarely use Adobe. After doing that when
XP boots I get the normal XP splash screen and then the screen goes
blank and the HD doesn't do anything for about 10 seconds or so then
continues booting ? I've tried placing checkmarks back in the boxes
and even done a system restore but it still has this now odd behavior
? Also my PC used to boot straight into XP but now I get the setup
screen before the booting begins :(

Any Help Appreciated.

Regards.

As to the second issue - what setup screen? Do you mean the welcome
screen? To auto logon to your account:

1. Go to Start | Run and type in: control userpasswords2 | Ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password
To Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user
name and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you
start your computer.

You can accomplish the same thing by:

Download and install tweakui for xp and use its auto logon feature.

Lastly you can add the Dialog box that comes up when running control
userpasswords 2 to the Control Panel with the following tweak:

Add Control User Passwords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

I didn't make myself clear unfortunately. I've just had this computer
about a week or so. Initially when I would turn it on I would just see
the Windows XP logo and the hard drive would begin loading drivers etc
from the sounds it was making I would just see that until the desktop
appeared, which was quite fast.

I did *not* see the setup of the BIOS screen at all, unless I hit
the reset button after the machine had booted.

Now after un checking Adobe Reader and the two HP photo drivers for my
computer in startup under scoffing I see the name of the motherboard
manufacturer and it pauses for me to hit delete or tab to go into
setup or bios ( whatever you want to call it ) then the screen goes
blank for about 10 second and the HD quits for about the same time as
if its waiting for something ?

I've rechecked the Adobe reader and the two HP photo drivers but I
still get this screen with the MB manufacturer and BIOS / setup on it,
followed by that 10 seconds or so of silence from the HD before it
begins loading again and eventually the normal desktop appears, I'm
the only one on this computer so it shouldn't be like its waiting for
a password or something ? It wasn't doing this before I unchecked
Adobe and the HP photo drivers.

Thanks for your help so far.

It sounds like you unchecked more than just the Adobe and HP photo
drivers. It sounds like you either unchecked a service that should
start with Windows and now the system is timing out or that you changed
the timeout setting on the System Configuration Utility's BOOT.INI tab.
I suspect the former. It is a bad idea to disable services by using
msconfig since it will allow you to disable services that are required.
It is better to do Start>Run services.msc [enter] instead.
