The file Bla.exe was created in my C: root directory today.

Google searches show conflicting info about it being a valid boot log
analyser program (whatever that is), or being some form of spyware / virus.
Can anyone enlighten me?

My son was (probably) surfing the web while I was out today, which makes me
wonder as to the progs source or validity.

W2K Pro, SP4.

A "Boot Log Analyzer" is just what it says, it analyzes the boot log,
used to troubleshoot the logon process. It is NOT a Microsoft utility
so it would not be on a Windows installation. It is a rather old
utility that was more prevalent in the W95/98 days. Did you stick Boot
Log Anylyser in there? If not I would be suspicious as to what it is.
The legitimate bla.exe is about 450 to 460kb in size. I kind of doubt
that any w2k user would rely on this antiquated utility, best to do a
virus/spyware scan. If it is the legitimate bla.exe you can simply
delete the file, it is a self executable so no grave consequences to be
had by deleting it, unless maybe if it was set to analyze the next boot.
My guess is that it is most likely spyware or other undesirable.
