I downloaded and installed BT 5.0.7, which they claim is compatible
with Vista. It slowed my system to a crawl and gobbled up nearly 1.5G
of memory. Just about all other programs simply became
non-responsive. Once I uninstalled BT the problems disappeared.

Try BitComet, it works with no problems on 32 and 64 bit Vista
