bios upgrade

Is there any way to upgrade by bios for free. I have via technologies.

BIOS upgrades are free, but do NOT upgrade your BIOS unless you really need
it..

I have had memory problems and I believe you may have helped me with them. I
did everything I was supposed to do. It seems however that my motherboard
chipset cannot cache the whole system memory, and that this may cause
performance penalties according to one of the programs I ran for help.
Any more suggestions.....

I downloaded Lavaly's EVEREST Home Edition, a freeware edition, from zdnet or
downloads.com. It basically tells you what is running on your system (types
of drivers, software, OS, chips,& bios. It displays the website of your bios
manufacturer where you can get upgrades (which I did, for free).

It is imperative that you get the correct memory.. just buying sticks of any
type results in a 50-50 chance of it working or not.. go to these sites.....

BIOS upgrades rarely address memory problems, so I would not take that
route..

I returned the 256 ram for a pc133 and got 2 sticks of 128 pc100 and they
worked perfectly. I am still concerned about my bios though. On the
programs I ran to check my memory it stated my bios was to old and should be
updated.

When you first turn on the computer hit the pause button to see what type
and the version of bios you have. Then go to the motherboard or bios web
site and see if there is an upgrade. If so download the flash file to a
floppy and follow directions EXACTLY in the readme file or on the web site
instructions. If you don't do it exactly, good by motherboard. Actually, if
your eprom chip is not soldered to the motherboard you can actually replace
it if you break it.

Some diag/check programs will tell you if your BIOS is old but unless you
are experiencing problems directly attributable to BIOS, leave well alone..

I have a computer running a BIOS almost 5 years old..

Ok so maybe I won't change my bios, but then I have another question for you.
My computer tells me I have no cpu l2 cache. What is it and how do I get it.

L2 Cache may be disabled in BIOS.. you need to refer to your motherboard
manual for instructions on how to enter BIOS and which section of BIOS to
look..

It is important to make only one change at a time unless you know exactly
what you are doing, and the consequences of any action taken..

Unfortunately, I have no motherboard manual as my computer was given to us by
a computer guy who has since moved out of state. This is why I am gratefully
requesting the expert assistance from experts such as yourself to walk me
through my difficulties.

Download Everest Home Edition.. this will give you motherboard info.. then
go to the motherboard manufacturer website..
