Bios not auto detecting HD.

I rebooted my AMD computer today and the disk error checking routine on
startup took unusually long. Windows W2K started fine. I then shut off
my computer to move it and when I turned it back on the Bios could not
auto detect my IDE HD. I got into the bios and tried the auto option
and eventually it found the HD BUT once saved it reboted and lost the
information again. I tried with a different hard drive and things were
fine. I also checked all the connectons So I think something happed to
my HD.

Any suggestions? Could the boot record be lost? I have a AVG Viris
software running but maybe a virus got to it.

time is correct each time you shutdown and reboot?
Checksum error coming up?
Hey the drive could just be dying..it happens and In similar fashion. Try
and run diagnostics from the manufacturer.

To me, it sounds like your CMOS battery is weak. -Dave

You could have knocked the computer when moving it and damaged the HDD.
