Well, I did the first step, and then my computer went to hell...My enitre
desktop was gone, my quicklaunch bar was gone, and I couldnt get it back (It
said cannot create toolbar) and all of My Documents was gone. Also, when I
right-click a file and chose send-to, there isnt an option to send it to the
desktop! I am royally screwed? Is there anyway of getting any of the options
back? My bookmarks are all gone too. I tried system restore, but all my
restore points were erased. PLEASE HELP URGENT!

What command did you actually type in? Have you tried Opening your Recycle
Bin?

I typed in "RD /S [drive:]" then it did some stuff and no, there was nothing
in my recycling bin.

RD = Remove Directory w/ Qualifier all sub-folders. RD bypasses
the Recycle Bin. If you used that command from a command prompt
you were likely in your profile folder - which means most if not all
your personal data was removed.

That command has removed all the directories under your default directory on
drive C: Your default directory is probably C:\Documents and Settings\<your
username> You've deleted Desktop, Favourites, My Documents and Start Menu.
Sorry, unless you have a backup, you've lost all your personal details. That
website (and for future reference, any other site you follow details on)
should specify backup first. Good lesson, but infortunately a hard one

Yes, I was in my profile folder...dammit that sucks. Well, at least I know
what I did wrong, but how come I cant get my quicklaunch bar back, or create
shortcuts to my desktop?

Because those components (Folders) don't exist. Quick Launch is a
sub-folder of Application Data \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer, so if
the folder is gone no QuickLaunch is available.
Before you do too many operations check out an Undelete tool which
can recover files marked as free space. This is if the space has not been
re-allocated to new files.

Logon as adminstrator and copy the profile from Default User to your own. If
you're on as Administrator, create a user, put it in the administrator
group.

Have you tried System Restore? Restore back to before you did this deed.

Hit send before I finished typing :) Try
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;319974 for details
on creating/copying profiles.

Ok well I figured out how to get my quicklaunch back (I looked in the
<user>.home folder and found how where it was) and I know how to make
shortcuts (drag-and-drop the icon on the quicklaunch and it automatically
makes one) but it isn't an option when I right click>send-to, but at least
it's better than nothing. O well, back to getting all my bookmarks back.
Thanks for all of your help guys, I appreciate it.

is any better? - Jack
