Virus messed me up... help

I got some type of virus.. got rid of it..
It was a host.
In regular mode. I am missing my start command and search. On the task bar
it states that the admin has disabled properties.
I did a repair with CD. Now I have back restore.. however my restore
points are gone. Is there any way to restore my machine back to last week or
all those points gone. Also.. when I click shortcuts on the desktop... it
only makes other shortcuts on the desktop... I have to use the start programs
to do anything... what a mess
