big, slow spreadsheet

Hello,

My spreadsheet is getting very large, 300+ rows and 25+ columns, most cells
contain formulae. There is also a complex bar chart on the sheet.

Whenever I add new data it seems to take a long time ( a few seconds) to
update the spreadsheet. This is not a major problem but can be annoying when
I have a lot of new data to add.

I have wondered about turning off the 'automatic' re-calculation option and
calculating manually.

Does anyone have other ideas or suggestions please ?

Thanks

KK

300 row, 25 columns is not at all large.

Frequent causes of slow calculation:

VLOOKUPs with the 4th argument set to FALSE
Array formulas
User Defined Functions

Depending on what version of Excel you are using

For 2003 - select the "Tools" drop-down - options - calculation - manual

For 2007 - similar process - but you have to start with the Pearl - the
round Microsoft icon in the upper left corner of the spreadsheet.
