dave

I have a problem... I cannot connect to the internet. My desk top is
connected to the cable modem thru a router. Two lap tops are also
connected...they are working fine, The desk top was fine till today. I
un-installed Norton system works....installed Avast. The icon at the
bottom (in the tray) shows the two little screen icon and says it is
trying to aquire a network address. If I run cmd and try to renew
ipconfig it says " an error ocurred while renewing interface Local Area
Connection : the RPC server is unavailable"
I have rebooted everything.... I have tried system restore but that will
not permit me to do a restore. I have un-installed avast. Dial up access
still works. I am not sure where to go from here.... any help would be
appreciated.
thanks D

Check the status of the RPC service in the Control Panel >
Administrative Tools >Services. If it is stopped, start it. If it
cannot start, check under Properties > Dependencies what other service
have to run to make this service work and start them before.
