I have a file on my computer that was once a folder. It
was being transferred to another computer and managed to
end up in .bif hell. I have no idea on how to recover the
information that was contained in this folder. Some of
which is irreplaceable. During this very disturbing
process the name of the folder was changed
to "convo.bif". Needless to say I had nothing to do with
this. I don't know how it happened and I have no clue on
how to fix it. Can anyone please help me?

A quick Google shows that the .bif extension stands for "build
information files". I can't imagine why you would have a file with this
extension or how this could have happened in a simple file transfer. I
would suggest that you provide a lot more information to this newsgroup
if you want help. What you should do is restore the "irreplaceable"
data from backups. If you neglected to make backups and you don't get
any other help from the newsgroup experts (and you might of course),
then contact DriveSavers (www.drivesavers.com) for help in retrieving
your backup. Only you can decide if recoverying your data is worth the
cost of using a professional data recovery firm.
