Better Floppy

In Windows 9x there was a more efficient way to format a floppy than just
selecting format in My computer. I don't recall just how it was done but it
was a rather simple process.

Is there an alternate way to format floppies in XP?

Personally, I just open a command prompt and type:
format a: /q

which formats the disk and doesn't tell you anything. If I need to format
more than one (which is common) I then eject the disk, put in the new one,
press the up arrow and then enter.

Thanks Patrick,

I'm pretty sure that is the same as in 9x. It supposedly gave more usable
space and did a few others that I don't recall.

Which really just erases the FAT and Root directory. It doesnt check for
bad areas.

All I do, Jax, is right click the shortcut icon I have on my taskbar and hit
'Format'.

What is the shortcut to? Is it a file you have created or just to the native
format utility? If it's a file you created, what is in it?

Shortcut to A:\, Jax. Just dragged it out of Win Explorer and set it down on
the taskbar.
