Best Way to Share Files/Folders?

I work in one city and my sister lives in another. She wants to help me with
my web design business. What is the best way to have a "network-like hard
drive" between our two homes? If we were in the same office, we'd just set up
two computers and share the files/folders from a central hard drive. But,
we're in different cities.

Work on a live/remote server based site or subweb/subsite under a rootweb.

If you feel your current issue is a results of installing
a Service Pack or security update, please contact

If the problem can be shown to have been caused by a

Thanks. Not sure what that means. Who does this? Where is a web site where I
can find out more?

You would have an account with a web host that has the FP extensions, then you both would work
directly on various web product directly in FP on this live/remote server.

What if I need to share many folders and programs (PowerPoint, Contact
Database, etc..). Is an "Intranet" or service like "XDrive" the way to go?

Your sister would need these on her local machine, i.e. she'd need to
purchase a copy of MS Office, which has Powerpoint has part of it.
Otherwise, if you mean how do I share the files for her to work on, just
email them to her.

Yes, I've sort-of heard of that XDrive thing....it is a web server, but is
intended just for users to use as storage space, not for public viewing,
perhaps this is the best way to share the files, then you'd both need access
to the various client's hosting accounts (or do you host your clients sites
yourself?).

You would need to locate a hosting service that offers file and application sharing, as well as web
hosting.

Gregg -
Google for remote access. PC Anywhere is one program that allows you to access one
computer (and it's programs) from another. My experience with it, on an internal network,
was it was slow and clunky, but did work. If you set up as host, and your sister set up as
client, she could work on your machine, but you couldn't at the same time. There may be
more capable, faster stuff out now.
