Best way to partition 300gb System Drive?

Hello all,

I'm making the jump from a 120gb IDE drive to TWO 300gb SATA drives
(Maxtor 6B300S0 drives). I'm doing away with the IDE drives all
together, and going purely SATA.

My question is.. what is the suggested partitioning scheme when using
such a large drive as the system drive? With 80gb and 120gb drives
I've used in the past, I've simply used one big NTFS partition. But
with these 300gb drives, I imagine that isn't suggested.. and may
hinder performance when using a system partition that big.

So my question would be in two parts I guess...

1. What is the suggested way to partition the system drive?
2. For the second 300gb drive, I'm going to purely use it for storage.
Should I partition this drive into multiple partitions as well, or go
with one big 300gb partition? Keeping in mind that no programs will
ever run from this drive.

Any suggestions on this are greatly appreciated.

Nope, should be fine.

Its generally best to just have one partition for the entire drive.
2. For the second 300gb drive, I'm going to purely use

Just one big partition is generally best.

I personally am comfortable making my C partition on my 300G drives
around 15-20G. It's quite easy to make a image of it to a partition on
the second drive in case C goes belly up.
2. For the second 300gb drive, I'm going to purely use it for storage.

with one big 300gb partition? Keeping in mind that no programs will
ever run from this drive.

I find it easier to partition all the rest of the free space into say
75G +/- units. I use up a lot of disk space in partitions for MPs,
photo storage with each photo taking up 10-15G on average, photo
scanning, C images for back up on a weekly basis and on and on.
Everyone has their own methods their comfortable with.
I find it fairly quick to defrag a small C partion as opposed to a
300G one if your into defraging. In fact for the most part only C
needs to be defraged in my setup.
