Nic

Hello,

Since news.individual.net is no more free, I would like to know what are
the best free current alternatives (speed, data retention....)

Thanks

a.c.f. is not the appropriate newsgroup for your question. This one is
though: alt.free.newsservers.

WTF!

The OP wants a free NNTP server so he can participate in a group about
free software. Where do you get off telling him he can't post here? Who
put you in charge of ACF? FWIIW I too am interested in know the answer
to his question.

Then you will need to consult the good folk in for they are better equipped to discuss the matter. For those without
nntp access, it can be found using this method:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.free.newsservers

FWIW news.aioe.org are free, and I think it's still possible to get an
account with Xprivat.org, possibly one from http://news.sunsite.dk/ from
http://www.freenet.de/freenet/ (use Babelfish for this one from
http://reader.greatnowhere.com/ (I don't think there's a sign up fee)
and there are plenty of others.

However, for a more accurate picture the mentioned Usenet group is
informative, as are these links:

http://freenews.maxbaud.net/
http://www.free2seek.com/free/newserver.shtml
http://www.disenter.com/

and, finally, let's not forget this cheeky little devil:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.free.nntp

Please notice that I have been very polite, and that I didn't send you
to this site:

http://snipurl.com/8qwq

:-)

I have more, but I don't know about their reliability and if they are up
to date. That's because I don't use ;-)

Thank-you for that very helpful reply.

All the free servers are lousy. Pay individual.net the 12.95 a year for
excellent service, and forget about it.

This newsgroup is not for discussing free newsservers, neither is it
for discussing football or gardening for that matter. It's for
discussing freeware only! There is a newsgroup dedicated to free
usenet servers, as others have pointed out.

Many of the people who use news.individual.net learned about it in this
group. Back when it was free it was considered to be an acceptable topic.

I as well am interested in this topic and was going to post here about it.
Bell Sympatico have just announced the cessation of NewsGroups on May
25th so this is important to me until my contract runs out with them.

I've followed this NG for years and have come to value the opinions of
many posters here.

I am with Rogers, we lost our NNTP access a few months ago.

Yea;
It sounds to me that this topic, while squarely on-topic, certainly is
in the same ballpark. If peeps are very concerned about it being OT,
perhaps the posters could mark it OT but...
