Best solution to deploy packages

Hi all,

Situation : My network gathers approx. 200 PCs.

We use Norton Ghost Version 7 to deploy customized packages on Windows
XP clients.
Although very useful, this software isnt supported anymore by Norton.
That is why I intend to invest in a new solution.
What is the best (efficient, cheap) software to do the this (SMS?) ?

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind Regards.

Are you looking to deploy individual software packages or the entire desktop
(OS plus packages)?

200 PCs? ins a domain?
- Use Active Directory to push the software..
- Use scripts you write yourself to push the software (could be remote
installs, copy to the machine and run PSEXEC installs, etc.)
- SMS is an option. Not as cheap as the "free" options above though.

Personally - I use a combination of AD software distribution and unattended
installation scripts to push software to machines. Built-in and/or free
methods that work.

Only individual software.

Yes indeed, Windows 2000 AD.

We already deploy a few software via Active Directory (Citrix Client,
Ghost Client).
But, Norton Ghost (with the "AI Builder" tool) allows to customize
installs by handling reboots, by modifying install options...
For instance the Ghost package we use to deploy "Sybase Client"
customizes the essential sql.ini file to fit our databases connections.
I am an utter noob in remote installs via AD....Is all this possible
with PSEXEC or scripts (WSH?) ?

Many thanks for your help.

Kind Regards.

Not sure if it will do what you want, but take a look at Acronis TrueImage.
