Best Security Suite - recommend please

I am looking mainly for anti: spyware/ virus and a firewall

I have tried looking online for reviews, and have come up with Zone
alarm security suite

Just wondered what you think of this, and if theres anything better?

Obviously I am after something very recent, which Zone Alarm isn't
quite - would this be a problem?

Many thanks
Lee

This month's pc magazine did a roundup and concluded that they all
have rather weak spyware protection. I think McAffee got their
editor's choice as a suite though.

I haven't been very impressed with McAffee though. Seems to scan
really friggin slow in comparison to other more nimble stuff like
nod32.

Whatever you do, avoid Symantec.

Zonealarm is a good firewall but the suite bundles E-Trust in for an anti-
virus. E-Trust has been having problems of late and I got rid of it
because of persistent problems with updating. I've never found a suite
that seems to do all things well.

Maybe you would be better off getting separate programs for firewall, anti-
virus and other malware. I use Zonealarm, <http://tinyurl.com/kzq>, avast!
<http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html>, and both AdAware,
<http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/> and Spybot Search &
Destroy, <http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html> for spyware. a-squared
<http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/> is a good trojan hunter.

have a look at BitDefender. The Internet Security version #9 comes with
Antivirus on access (virus shield) and on demand, a firewall, antispam,
antispyware - alltogather. Updates every few hours. Regularely one of
the best in testings.

I would be one who is not a fan of suites. One should look at
stand-alone, best-in-class utilities. However, F-Secure Internet
Security is one that comes to mind that I find to be a cut above the rest.

have a look at BitDefender (Professional Plus or Internet Security) from
Softwin.

Hello waxwabbit,

I use BitDefender 9 Professional Plus, and am very satisfied.
It has built in Anti-virus, anti-spam, firewall and dial controll, updates
are issued very often (few times a day) and very small (100-200kb).
I tried to scan with other engines (McAffee online, Adaware, Hijack This,
MS Antispyware) after few months using it and found none, nada!
After that, I cleaned my system of any other anti-malware programs.
