Best place for NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM: C:\ or C:\WINNT ?

Where is the official place for the two Win200 core files NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM ?
Is this C:\ or C:\WINNT ?

Does a move of the two files affect the booting process?

Or are both directories part of the path search chain where Win2000 searches for the two
files?

These files must be in the root of the drive from which the system is
being booted. Only the root directory is visible during a boot. The boot
process knows nothing of paths.
