Best Method to clean underside of glass

L

Leor Amikam

I have ah HP 6300 scanner. The underside of the scanner bed has gotten
dirty with "gunk" near the top.
I was able to remove the top of the scanner to expose the underside of the
glass. I tried cleaning it with
Windex and photographic lens paper, but now I still have streaks from the
cleaning. Is there a
foolproof method to clean the glass with the correct solution and wipe to
get no streaks?

Thanks.

Microfiber cloth for glass surfaces, if need be ever so slightly
dampened.

In my experience, a good (read "real") micro fiber cloth!

I tried all sorts of wet cleaners from Windex to alcohol to lens
cleaners and whatnot. But they all leave streaks of some sort.

So, now I exclusively "dry clean" with a good micro fiber cloth and
that works wonders.

Lot's of elbow grease(tm). Basically you need an absorbent, non-abrasive
towel that is as lint free as possible, and wipe LOTS until dry and clear.

FYI DO NOT use Windex or other ammonia based cleaners. That is what the
gunk probably was. It says this in the manual for the scanner, but I didn't
pay much attention. Until I got a new scanner with clear glass - after 2
cleanings with Windex it's now cloudy on the bottom. You want to use as
little cleaner as possible, recommend is just a damp towel.
