Best IE-based tabbed browser?

Can you maybe answer a question on Avant browser?
For some reason since I installed it on my new-built PC, it refuses
to open files of filetype .mht or .mhtml (these are saved web pages
on my HDD). It just tries to 'download' them for 20-30 secs from my
HDD folder and then stops. It opens ordinary .html files no problem.

Hmmm....works fine for me Avant 10.1 build 22 on Windows XP Pro. Do you have
the option enabled under Tools>Avant Browser Options...>Files and Protocols

Yes I do, as mentioned in another thread. It's a mystery!
All I see is a message in the status line
"downloading file//<drive>/filename etc" ...and it sits there.

Can any of these IE-based shells (or any other browser for that matter)
do what Opera can: switch between Author and User modes? Meaning it
should display black text against white background (preferably with
minimum number of clicks). There is a check box under Internet Options
- Acessibility- "Ignore colors specified on Web pages" (way too many
clicks) but it will make it effective on all pages of all IE shells at
once whereas Opera has this setting page (tab) - specific.

Greenbrowser has a plug-in StandardMode which does not work for all
sites, plus every time you click on a link within a page you have to
activate StandardMode again. Sleipnir has an option Disable Stylesheet
which also does not work for all sites. There is a bookmarklet called
ZapColors - again does not work for all sites. I think Firefox has an
extension where if you press Ctrl-Shift-T, it will make it black text
against white background, I have never tried it.

Are there any others, is Opera the only browser who does this right?

I'm not familiar with other browsers apart from IE and Avant.
You could try re-posting this in a new thread - someone will try
to help.

In IE (and IE-based shells) and Netscape you can get bookmarklets to change
the text to any colour
and to change or remove the background. This seems to me to be better than a
simple black/white change.

I haven't tried one for a couple of years; I guess I'm looking for one
that's pretty close to Firefox in functionality.

What's the current favourite?

IE 5 or 6 with locked Taskbar.
