I'm rather partial to Maxtor and Western Digital drives
personally...especially the pair of WD 80GB drives me and my roommate
picked up at Circuit City for $90 each, which will ultimately be $60
each once we do the paperwork for the $30 rebates on them.
I've owned, over the past several years, 5 Western Digital HDDs from
2.1 to 80 gig. I've never had a problem with any of them and they're
all still going strong. Just my $0.02 worth.
There was several recent threads about reliability problems with
Maxtor drives. Personally, I've had one start to go bad and Maxtor
replaced it. So, I've had one failure in 6 drives that I've bought
from them. I stopped using WD drives because there was a documented
incompatibility between the WD drive and the Abit motherboard (KT7A)
that I had before my ASUS board. Anyway, I just replaced my 80 GB
Maxtor with a 200 GB Maxtor and it seems to work just fine.
Western Digital best and most trouble-free for me!
