I'd like to know what is the best custom built computer.

I'm thinking of what components to use like motherboard, memory,
harddrive, sound card, video card, etc. etc.

The BIG question is, what criteria are you using to judge "best"?
Best for what purpose?
What budget?
What size?
Just how customized did you want it, more like a work of art or just neon
and airbrushed or simply meaning "custom" opposed to "OEM"?

Generally the first considerations are:

Budget
Performance, Most demanding use(s)
Reliability
Size

You can't have the best of all worlds, must decide the compromises that
suit you.
