Best backup?

Under XP I used Norton Ghost to make an image copy to my external USB drive.
Ghost has not yet been ported to Vista. This is a dual boot machine, so I
can pop over to my XP partition and Ghost my Vista partition, but I'm
wondering what is the equivalent backup capability under Vista? I'm slowly
moving over to a pure Vista environment, but the lack of the equivalent of
Ghost is holding me back: is there an equivalent?

Ultimate & Business have a built in image backup application to backup &
restore your C drive.
It works very well.
For incremental backups of work I run SyncToy to backup work to a series of
USB disks & flash media.

It sucks!
It will insist on doing the system drive whether you want it or not and if
you duel boot it will insist on backup both drives. If you decide to do a
file by file backup it will still backup your system drive/s. A major waste
of space and time exspecailly if you just want to backup some files on a
different HD than you system drive/s.

Oh and it doesn't compress unless you backup to DVD's.
Stupid.

In you opinion.
I don't dualboot, just use Vista with one fixed hard disk & the complete
image backup is excellent at what it does...backing up my installation to a
USB disk.
As for backing up work, I use synctoy to a series of usb drives.
Not interested in compression when hard disks cost next to nothing.

Not so.

Acronis has 2 problems that make automatic unattended backup less than
desirable or impossible depending on your point of view. Those 2
problems do not exist in Norton Ghost 10

1. If you set up Acronis to take full backkups and validate once the
backup is complete, Acronis validates the backup but also re-validates
all the prior full backups that have been previously validated.
Unacceptable.

2. If you create a backup location for full backups set the backup
limit to 4, Acronis does not delete fifth oldest backup once it
competes a new backup. Unacceptable.

These 2 problems negates the ability to perform automatic unattended
backups.

These 2 problems do not exist in Ghost.

Is this in the log?

Does the log show it checking for number of files, but getting
the answer wrong? Does it ever decide that a backup should be
deleted?

I am unclear, when it allows you to specify, whether, when using
differential backups, whether the count is of full backups or all
backups.

These 2 problems do not exist in Ghost.

Apart from Ghost not being available for Vista yet, AFAIK; I
found it to be almost everything I wanted for XP, it had a
problem which gave me great grief, until I found it wasn't just
my installation - BSOD intermittently when backing up the boot
partition. It got to the point that the only use I was having to
make of my backups was restoring when Ghost had trashed Windows.
