benchmarking tool?

We are a big Dell customer and they just sent us a Dell Optiplex 740 with an
AMD 64-bit processor to test and try and get us to move from Intel to AMD.
It came with XP 32-bit and I've installed Vista Enterprise 64-bit on it in a
dual boot config. I need to benchmark both and probably a comparable Intel
system that we have. What is a recommended benchmarking tool to use on
Vista, especially the 64-bit version?
Thanks,
Jeremy dennis

I'm not sure about my license, it's a volume license. But I always believed
that was for publishing benchmarks. I need to do it to provide a
recommendation to my manager on when we should move to 64-bit in
anticipation of Vista.

Maybe that is a result of Microsoft not wanting you to compare beta software
performance with commercially release software since it does not show an
accurate picture between the two.

Update: I just did a search in the EULA, there is nothing relating to
"Performance aspects".

Just Google for "Vista" "Benchmark" (including the quotes) and you will find
many benchmarking tools and results of many people who have performed
benchmarking tests. Remember that most of these tests were performed on many
different beta versions and not on RTM.

No, it is still there. It is the section about .NET benchmarking, section 9.
Right off, it says "you may conduct internal benchmark testing of those
components [of the .NET framework 3.0]."

"9. MICROSOFT .NET BENCHMARK TESTING. The software includes one or more
components of the .NET Framework 3.0 (".NET Components"). You may conduct
internal benchmark testing of those components. You may disclose the
results of any benchmark test of those components, provided that you comply
with the conditions set forth at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=66406. Notwithstanding any other
agreement you may have with Microsoft, if you disclose such benchmark test
results, Microsoft shall have the right to disclose the results of benchmark
tests it conducts of your products that compete with the applicable .NET
Component, provided it complies with the same conditions set forth at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=66406."

You may even publish your findings if you comply with their conditions.
They just don't want you to misrepresent their product.
