Benchmark HDD's

I have a chance to compare a number of PATA and SATA drives and controllers
and was wondering if there was a single decent benchmark software out there
for free/shareware?

Basically I want to know the following (and let me know what else I should
be testing...)

- CPU utilization
- Maximum read speed
- Maximum write speed
- Average read speed
- Average write speed

Currently I have the following "freeware":
- HD Tack v2.7 - Freeware version only tests reading
- SiSoft Sandra 2004 v2004.10.9.133 - I've been told that this isn't the
most accurate. Saving is disabled.

Suggestions?

you should be testing "real" life performance & comparing it with
different setups /chipsets, HDs/ using cumulative indexes; so you
could know which & how much in reality they differ between them in %
of speed:

Sandra has to have somewhere showing Drive Index (example 40.000
points or so) & if you can not save, why don´t you use Screen snap of
the results? Example: if index of 1st sistem is 40.000 & 2nd is 42.000
means that in real life there is only 2nd one 5% faster (barely
noticable!)

the other way is to use PCMark2002 for example; it also gives a score
to compare same way.
Example: my QuantumF+AS 20Gb gives on my mobo gives score of
626 points (sandra2001pro 18146 points); 2 WD Raptors in Raid0 should
give more than double result /factor of compare higher than 2x/, that
means more than once (100%) faster HD subsystem than mine ..

How fast your hardware is not as important as how you set your system
up to be fast for access :p

PS
My defrag takes less than 10 seconds to do a 20 gig and 40 gig drive
setup.Ask me how?

ATTO.

The benchmark software that came with Aida32 Enterprise edition (if you can
still find it, not sure about Everest) under 'Plugins' is quite good.
