400 Too Many Connections [BS-USER5 allows 4 per host/0 per feed (0 ==
nolimit)] (Tornado v1.0.6.372)

Configuration:
Account: newsgroups.bellsouth.net
Server: newsgroups.bellsouth.net
User name: *******
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): 0
Error Number: 400
Code: 800ccca0

I had no problem before, but I tried a new newsreader and the thing opened 3
different connections on me. I restarted the computer but have been getting
the above error ever since. Obviously this is not a MS problem or an Outlook
Express problem, as I am using the msnews.microsoft.com without a problem.
This only happens now when I try to access my bellsouth newsgroups.

Anybody got any ideas?

eh ?? Why not just configure your news reader to use
the Microsoft news server ?? news.microsoft.com
Microsoft generously (well, perhaps they do have a
vested interest) provides a public news server supporting
their products. Works quite well actually.

That's an authentication error from BellSouth's servers. Happens everytime
BellSouth technicians try to "fix" something. It's on BellSouth's end, not
Microsofts.

I cannot find it in the registry either. I was using Mozilla Mail. I wonder
if that has anything to do with it.

Tell Bellsouth they're full of beans. You're getting that error because they
limit the number of connections you can have to their news server. Outlook
Express has no way to limit the number of connections as do other newsreader
softwares. You don't have that problem with microsoft.com because they don't
restrict the number of connections. Besides, you are likely downloading only
a message at a time from Microsoft.

Try a freeware newsreader like 40Tude Dialog. Set the number of connections
to the number BS allows.

The Tornado business isn't at your end and you have no control over it.
AFAIK it's server software.

msnews.microsoft.com carrys *only* microsoft.* newsgroups. OP also
wants to access the thousands of newsgroups available on his ISP
Usenet servers that are not microsoft.* groups.

I think he'll have to check the configuration options in his
newsreader and tell it to use fewer connections. Apparently Bellsouth
just doesn't allow that.
