Belkin Router

I just got a new Belkin 4 Port Router, Model F5D5231-4. I have Verizon
DSL with a Westell 2200 Modem.

After installing and connecting all wires, I'm getting a popup message
on the bottom right hand taksbar "lan cable has been unplugged" on a
constant basis; could be every 10 minutes, sometimes, lesst spaced
somtimes more, but constantly. After a few minutes, a new message pops
up showing that it is plugged in and on at 100 MBPS.

Once this happens, the modem gets disconnected too because it's
connected via the PC. It can't be reconnected until and unless the
router is reset, setup again, etc. and on it goes.

I was on with Belkin tech support last week 4 a hour, it looked like
the #1 port is no good; switched to #2, it stayed on a bit while I was
with the tech guy. But later got same message again and in less then 2
minutes out pops the message "has been unplugged".

ALL CABLES ARE TIGHTLY SEATED, I SWITCHED CABLE TO ASSURE THEIR
INTEGRITY, it seems that windows xp keep disconnecting with the router
for some odd reason.

I've DISABLED power management (as MS suggests in 1 of their
responses.) but to no avail.

Belking is replacing the router due to #1 port being bad. But I'm
sure this problem will remain. Any thoughts ?

Thank you.

Try locking down the network card to 100/Full Duplex, sometimes the
auto-negotiate setting can be flaky. You'll find this in Device Manager,
double-click the entry for your network card, then select the Advanced tab.
It should be somewhere in the list, perhaps as "media type".

Hi Richard,

Guess what?

Tried u'r suggestion, it's been about 2-3 hours and it's still plugged
in w/o problem.

Hope I won't have to tackle this issue again.

Tnx

Well, guess I celebrated too soon.

Literally, the moment I posted last message, it disconnected.

Had to reset router via it's software, reconnected and just b4 it
disconnected again. All in the space of -2 hrs.

Now I'm connected to DSL modem w/o router.

Any thoughts?

Sorry - I was ready to be happy for you.

If the network card works fine connected directly to the modem but not to
the router, then I'd have to suspect that there's a problem with the router.

u know "innocent until proven guilty"..........lol

I'm getting a new router from Belkin due to the Issue of the #1 port,
but I'm willing to bet any money, this mysterious UNPLUGGING will
continue, lol.

We shall find out in a few days.. I'll be back with results once I
have new one.

Just run a search on google groups u'll find similiar issues with
routers.

Tnx.

Your message doesn't say, but are you aware that the Westell
Model 2200 DSL modem is, itself, a router? At least mine is
but I got mine from Bellsouth.

Both DSL modem and Belkin router may be trying to act as a
DHCP server for your network and thus interfering with each
other.

Just my two cents worth.

Tnx James,

Not so sure about the Westell 2200, but if that's the case it's a
router without any ports! lol nothing in the back.

Looking at Verizon's DSL pages, I think they mention that a seperate
Router is needed; besides I spoke with their Tech Support too about
this issue although I know it's not their problem for the Modem works
flawlessly with my PC.

I have a Westell from Bellsouth too, (think it's the 2200) down in my
Miami Condo but to the best of my recollection, that looks almost like
mine up here in NY.
