Belkin router and VPN disconnects

Is there any fix I can implement to prevent losing my VPN conection across a
Belkin home wireless router? Every three minutes, the router drops my VPN
connection, whether via wireless or wired connection. I removed the router
and connect directly to the Cable modem and can maintain the connection
indefinitely, though this is very inconvenient. The host is running WinXPSP2.

I am "parked" at a remote location for six months and bought the Belkin
instead of a Linksys (which I know works fine with a VPN as I use one in my
home to get to my office). The Belkin is not nearly as configurable as the
Linksys, but I was trying to save the company some money (draw sidearm, aim
at shoe, pull trigger...).

Is there any keepalive message originating from my Win2003SP3 RAS machine,
that is going unanswered/blocked by the Belkin? If so, can any configuration
FROM MY SERVER'S side eliminate the problem - I am only marginally familiar
with RAS.

The server logs indicate the conection is being closed for : "The reason for
disconnecting was user request.", though clearly, I do not initiate the
disconnection.

Any work-arounds (besides trashing the Belkin and buying the Linksys)?

Thanks.

Bob,

Thank you for replying. I will look at the Belkin router; I don't see value
in hacking either the host or server registries, though, because I never have
a problem in public or at home going through Linksys equipment (I know this
from Netmon captures and the identification via the MAC addresses). If the
MTU is inappropriate for the Belkin, and if it's configurable (doubtful!), I
will do so.

However, how might an inappropriate MTU setting repeatably result in a 3:00
to 3:01 minute disconnect time?

Thanks,
