Belkin F5U103 RS232 USB adapter and windows XP

Chris

Can't get this adapter to work:
I've downloaded the latest XP drivers from Belkin (v. 1.2),
extracted them to c:\F5U103,
plugged in the adapter, and Windows detects a RS232 adapter, and starts the
Add New Hardware wizard.
However, no matter what I do, it keeps saying me it can't find drivers for
the hardware - I did point it to the c:\F5U103 folder, to no avail.
I have this very same adapter working flawlessly on a W98 and a W2K machine,
so I'm stumped. Belkin Support wasn't able to help me either.
I'm running XP Pro SP1 (clean install, directly at SP1).
I have plenty other USB devices that work perfectly on this PC.

Anybody?
Thx,
Chris.

I don't know why it doesn't work either. I have two of them working perfectly
with XP Pro. Did you try the drivers from your CD? These drivers are not new,
so should be the same.

Belkin now has a driver for the RS-232 to USB device on their web
site.
My F5U103 works but sometimes unpredictably isn't seen by Win XP home
and is not assigned a serial port. When it works it works great.
If you need to try to reinstall the drivers, unplug the F5U103 and go
to System hardware and "Remove" it.
Plug the F5U103 back in and when Windows asks for the location of the
driver point to the folder where the driver file is. You should see it
write several items to system and registry.
If you were successful in getting it working the assigned com port
should show up under "Ports: Com and LPT" (may not be the exact name)
in the hardware list
Try this link. Has all the drivers listed for this gizzmo.
