Belarc Advisor will not install due to insufficient priviledges

I have downloaded and attempted to install Belarc Advisor, forgetting that I
was not logged on as an administrator, and I got the error message "You do
not have access to make the required system configuration modifications.
Please rerun this installation from an administrators account. So, I stopped,
switched user to the administrator account, and tried again. No luck. I get
the same error. I have rechecked the status of my accounts, in the user
accounts page of control panel, and the account is indeed described as an
admin account.

Is this a problem with my OS settings, or possibly with Belarc ? I am
clueless.

Thanks in advance for advice.

yeh, i wonder about BeLarc myself. It is free but at what cost to us?

The other day when I networked my laptop and pc together,
the BeLarc on my laptop ran automatically and began scanning my
pc; eventhough I had always kept any active processes for it disabled and
not using
and memory.

So, I figured that BeLarc somehow installed and disguised somekind of hook
or something
that was not viewed as spyware by "all" the antivirals that I use. And
BeLarc got a batch of data/information
about my PC that I never intended to provide nor did it ask me if it was ok
to send the data to them. I wonder
if BeLarc may have violated my rights as well, since it was "only" installed
on my laptop.

Needless to say I unistalled BeLarc and scoured my registry for everything
related to it by name, date and time...
Maybe its a good thing you cant install it.

But if you do, I would install it once, get your information printed, then
unistall
it right away.... However, I am sure that whatever you get back from the
report, the
data, plus who knows what else, has also been captured and probably resold
by BeLarc.

I have installed Belarc on several computers without problem, but I always
installed it with an administrator accout. It works well for me.
What did Belarc say about your problem?

Hi Bill,

Use Regedit or another Registry Editor you use. Remove the following keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Belarc and the sub-keys.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Belarc and the sub-keys

Now try to reinstall. But see if Belarc is listed in Add or Remove Programs and attempt to uninstall it, before you reinstall it.
