being reminded without outlook running

Must I always run Outlook te receive reminders, or is it possible to receive
them anyway ?
I am still using Office 97 !

How exactly would you get them without it running? At least some service
would have to be running. Upgrade to 2003 and you'll at least be able to
hide it when it is minimized...
