beeping computer

My computer gave a series of long beeps lasting a total of about 20-30
seconds while I was using it. What could these indicate? I thought
maybe overheating, could it be something else?

If they were an alternating tone, it is an overheating alarm.

NO. The same tone and length repeating.

It hasn't happened again. Maybe because to try to fix the problem I
mentioned in another post, not being able to access sysytem
information, I reinstalled XP as an upgrade. The access problem was
cured, maybe te beeping was cured as well, but I would still like to
know what caused it.

Obviously you did not go to this site and check out what 'beep noises' match the type of bios you have.
