If your motherboard doesn't have a built-in "beeper," you can disconnect the
system speaker and kill the sound or probably lessen the volume if there is a
built-in beeper. But it's not a good idea to get rid of it. Beeps can warn you
of problems. A single short beep when you're booting usually means everything
is OK.

One beep is normal on start-up...

"When you turn on your computer, it goes through a system boot test. One
beep indicates that everything's normal. If you hear more than one beep,
something's wrong with your system. It could be that your computer
expects to see hardware that isn't installed or plugged in properly."
