BCM shuts down everytime I try to import/export or check for error

I don't know what to do.

I have to import contacts into BCM since I lost half my contacts. I don't
want to just drag them from contacts to BCM because I will end up with half
the contacts duplicates. So I exported the outlook file, then I went to
import into BCM but it shuts down rigth when I click on import/export.

Do you know what is causing this and how to fix it?

Strange.

How did you lose half of your contacts initially?

I don't know what's causing this, but probably can help you troubleshoot
this interactively.

Oh, and which Outlook and BCM version is this including which service pack?

I had moved from Act and used the accounts as groups. When I realized groups
should be catagories I switched them over. Then I went to start deleting the
accounts after I would remove each contact from the account. The problem is
I didn't realize I had to save the account each time after removing the
contact from the account so it was deleting the contacts in the group even
though I removed them. I didn't realize this was happening until I delted
about 700 contacts. I found the BCM deleted file and brought a lot of them
back which caused a lot of duplicates but for some reason there are still a
lot of contacts missing. I don't know which ones so I have to bring them all
in to double check.

I'm running 2007 with SP2...is there an upgrade?
Windows vista

Should I run in safemode to see if that fixes the BCM from shutting down?

Thanks.

OK

So define "shuts down". Does the entire Outlook crash or just the BCM
process? And I'll ask again in this thread, does the database backup
complete successfully?

Thanks Leonid!

It's BCM 2007.

When it crashes the entire outlook crashes and automatically restarts.

I have done backups succesfully before but at times it won't work like right
now. When I click on manage database It pauses for a few seconds and then an
error window pops up saying "BCM for outlook could not complete your last
action or actions. Please try again". but then it still opens after that.
Then when I click on back up and choose the destination it starts to back up
and then an error window pops up and says "Database 'MSSmallBusiness' is
already open and can only have one user at a time. Backup Database is
terminating abnormally.

Also outlook shuts down a lot. I had my database to large which I think was
part of the problem but I split it and archived it which has helped.

Thoughts?

A random thought would be to check your HDD health. A failing drive can
cause headaches for the SQL server.

Your case sounds like SQL timeouts.

Before we go to that, check the SQL log files for errors. You'll find
them at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\Folder\Folder\MSSQL\Log

I'd have to look at your system at this point probably. I have that
remote capability.

There are errorlog files...is that bad?

I tried running the fix database under the managment section and it gave an
error and said "some errors were found that cannot be fixed. Please restore
a backed up database to conitnue working". Is that related to the SQL or is
my data base bad? should I us a backup database?

I will run a disk check tonight to see if it shows any hard drive problems.

I would love to do a remote configuration so you could see the problem
happen first hand.

I have a new hard drive and I'm going to buy Windows 7. Maybe this would
all go away if I loaded it all on a new drive...?

Now I can't even add a contact without getting the following error:

"This action cannot be completed because bcm cannot access the database.
Cannot open database "MSSmallBusiness" requested by the login. The login
failed. Login failed for user 'Brittan-PC\Brittan'.

Seems like a potentially failing hard drive and a potentially corrupt
database.

Please run a full backup immediately. It's built into Vista. You can
also use a tool like DriveImage XML or XXClone.

Sounds like you need help with a malfunctioning SQL instance. You can
open a case with Microsoft product support services for less than what
it would cost you to work with a consultant as they work on per-incident
basis rather than hourly.
