Hi,
BCM showed up on Technet today!!!!!
Funny, it shows it originally was available on the 30th-hmmm
but anyway, it's there now!!!

I'm not quite sure what you consider the problem.

BCM is aimed at small businesses, where the typical user has zero IT
know how.

How would presenting such users with a choice of database products and
asking them to name the sql instance (What's that?) help them?

I've made BCM work with other versions of sql and other instance names,
so it is possible for a developer or an IT professional to do so when
required.

But I don't see what BCM gains by making such a "feature" for the user.
They would complicate installs and result in less secure
configurations.

Hi Luther,

I agree fully with you. The fewer choices, the better.
1. I used BCM with OL03
2. I used BCM with OL07 Beta
3. I tried to install BCM (Tech refresh) with OL07 (Techn. Refresh), but it
did not install. Tried all kinds of loops and work around, but sorry.
4. Final OL07 and BCM 07 comes around. I tried to install BCM on OL07 as
normal. Office 07 including OL)& installs OK. Trying to install BCM07, but,
no way. Itried installing it using all the work arounds from BCM07 (Tech
Refresh), but no way.
5. I cleaned out anything that could reference any BCM on the computer, but
no way

....all the time the same message, failed to install.
What I find strange is that it does not even create a temp folder, from
which it should install. The Beta and the Tech refres versions created a temp
folder like C:\andaverylongnamesomething.

Any idea???

Try installing SQL Xpress 2005 SP1 before BCM.

It looks like many of the setup problems people have have run into with
BCM 2007 are Sql Xpress related.

Installing the Xpress explicitly (BCM does it silently) may produce
better diagnostics. If Xpress fails, then BCM probably won't install.
If Xpress succeeds, then BCM only needs to create its instance, and
doesn't have have to install the Xpress bits and configure Xpress
silently.
