BC-21e isn't recognized in Canon BJC 5500

Hi,

i tried to replace the mounted BC-20 with a BC-21e. First it got recognized,
but as i tried to print the first page the printer beeped and moved the
tray into the change cartridge position. After that the Bc-21e isn't
recognized anymore, repeated removal and insertion didn't help. The BC-20
that was mounted before is still recognized and prints just fine. The
Bc-21e is some years old, but was all the time sealed in the original Canon
package. The electrical contact matrix seems to be o.k. both on the
cartridge and the printer.
Any ideas how i can find out if the BC-21e is still ok? Might it be possible
that the cartridge is sort of date-locked (printer firmware saying "you're
too old")? I have that suspicion because the problem occured just at the
first time the pc communicated with the printer after the cartridge was
inserted.

TIA
Carsten

Unfortunately from my knowledge there is no dating or "date lock" for
the cartridge. The problem that your having is most probably due to
either the print head having shorted when you insert it or it being
defective. The only other way of testing the cartridge would be to try
it in a different printer but due to the fact that the BC-20 is
functioning it is most probably the cartridge.

Well... at last that does sound much better then "it might be a sure sign
your printer is dead" :)

I've got next week a opportunity to check the cartridge in annother printer,
maybe things clear up then.

Thanks!
