battery backup gone

Hi All
When unplugging my computer from AC outlet my computer blacks out
completely. Normally I was able to operate my computer for 2-4 hours via
battery power (without AC power) but this feature does not seem to work. Have
recently switched over from DiALUP to DSL. Is there something I missed in the
changeover? Appreciate any helpful comments.

Batteries go bad after awhile, and rechargeable ones have a maximum number
of times that they can be recharged and lose capacity over time as to how
much charge they will retain when recharged. Batteries wear out, even the
rechargeable ones. You never mentioned how old are yours.

It is also possible that you got the wrong adapter. Or perhaps the
connection is broken (the connector is broken or the connection to it) so
plugging in the adapter won't do anything because it really isn't getting
connected to the circuits inside.

Why ask here? This has everything to do with your battery, and
nothing to do with your Operating System.

If y'alls computer is connected to an uninterruptable power supply
(ups), possibly its sealed battery has gone dead.
