I have a friend who wants to save a large amount of e-mails from OE to
another folder on her hard drive (probably My Documents). Is there any way
to do this, or a freeware app that will extract the .eml from the .dbx and
let her save them outside OE? There has to be an easier way than opening
every single one and saving them again.

See if these help.

DBXtract 4.50 (last freeware version), rareware section of the Mole Zone

Kindly regards.

Thanks for the help, but I did a truly terrible job of explaining myself.
She only wants to save e-mails from one individual. I know she can sort the
e-mails and just drag/drop the ones she wants into My Documents, but they'll
have the .eml extension. She needs a way to batch convert them (there are
many) to .txt, .rtf. or .doc.

I'm going to a major medical center tomorrow for some serious evaluations,
and I'm absolutely terrified. Most likely the last thing I need to be doing
tonight is figuring out how to convert e-mails! My head's screwed on firmly
backward. My apologies.

Sounds like a decent way to pass the time til then. Best of luck, I
hope you pass your 'tests' with flying colors.

Is there some particular reason she doesn't want to just store them in
My Documents with the .eml extension?
