Basic Windows sounds skip at start of tone

When every I get one of the default XP sounds for any event, it skips or
hesitates at the beginning. I am using XP Home on a 1.6 P IV with 512 MB of
Ram, the sound card is an onboard SIS7012 variety. Any ideas?

Go to the motherboard mftr.'s website and download the latest drivers
for the onboard sound. If that doesn't do it for you, then you might
want to just buy a pci sound card - you can get a tolerable one for $12
usd, a really good one for around $50 usd.
