Base score 5?

I was just wondering if anyone has a base score 5. If so, can you describe
your system. This is my system of base score 2.7 :

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.00 GHz 2.7 subscore
Memory: 1 GB 3.5 subscore
Graphics: RADEON 9600 series 3.8 subscore
Gaming graphics: 383MB 3.3 subscore
Primary hard disk: 75GB total 5.3 subscore

I plan on upgrading CPU to 3.00GHz and add 1GB of memory. I like playing
games like BF2142 and Call of Duty 2. Games works fine, but when running
regular programs Vista is sluggish compared to XP. I have disabled all
visual effects, yet find my self waiting alot. I do have all my securities
enabled. Antivirus, spyware, etc. so i know im not being attacked. I
want to experience the WOW. :)

CPU: Athlon XP 4400+ Dual Core 5.3
Memory: 2 Gig OCZ Dual Channel PC 400 5.2
Graphics: Dual BFG 7900 GT's in SLI Mode 5.4
Gaming graphics: 512mb. 5.2
Hard Drives 4 WD 250 Gig in Raid ) Arrays 5.7

Even with my scores I seem to wait a lot as well. Wait for folders to open,
Wait for programs to close Etc Etc Etc.
I'm not impressed with Vista at all. I even have problems burning disks in
Vista but not with XP. Media center crashes all the time. Games run like
crap if they do run at all.

My XP Pro partition runs perfect - No waiting for anything.
I feel that I wasted my money on an incomplete operating system. Most of my
friends and relatives are not impressed with Vista either.

I know someone will reply to this stating that it is a new system and
problems should be expected but there should not be this many problems with
it. I have updated all drivers to the newest and even some of those just
make things worse.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I use XP Pro 95% of the time now.
It's proven , It works Right !

Not quite a 5, but here's what I have:

Processor: 5.3
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 4.7
Gaming Graphics: 4.2
Primary HD: 5.3

My system is a Dell E521, AMD Dual-Core 2.8 5600+, 2GB ram, 160 GB SATA II,
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256mb video card. I'm running Vista Enterprise x64.
Before you look at spending a lot of money upgrading your box, I'd suggest
you do like I did and take a look at Dell's outlet site. This is the 4th
box I've bought from there and I've had great luck with all of them. I
saved over $400 on this box, when compared to the same system's MSRP.

Gaming Graphics 4.9

I have no slow down at all. Runs faster than XP with Superfetch.

If you want to get a system of 5 you'll need a dual core system, so just
sticking in a 3Ghz CPU probably won't bring you up that high.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 5.3
Memory (RAM) 2.00 GB 5.5
Graphics Radeon X1900 Series 5.9
Gaming graphics 1279 MB Total available graphics memory 5.8
Primary hard disk 111GB Free (233GB Total) 5.4

What security software do you have installed? Things like Norton will quite
badly slow your system way way down.

My security software are the following:
AVG antivirus (its free you guys should try it)
Spybot search and destroy
Windows Firewall
and Windows Defender

It looks like if i want speed i need to build myself another computer. Dual
core processor and so on. :( I have always liked microsoft products, but
vista is such a memory hog. sighs. Thanks everyone for their response.

I don't know.. my machine is only a 4.3

Opteron 175 dual core 4.9
4 Gig DDR 400 Ram 4.9

XFX 7600 GS with 512 Meg DDR2

Graphics 4.3
Gaming Graphics 4.5
Primary Hard Disk 5.3

Luckly I'm a developer and about the only games I play are hearts and
solitare when I'm compiling. I'd have thought that this machine would have
rated higher. I have both a 7600 GS with 512 Meg of DDR 2 and a 7600 GT
with 256 Meg of DDR3. The GT model only increases the Graphics by .2.

To add a little to what others have said.
Your total score will not be higher than your lowest score, there is
no averaging involved.
If you do nothing with your video, you can not even get to 4.
Based on the scores you gave, if your goal is 5 or more, you need to
replace everything except your hard drive.

Better, pay less attention to the scores and more attention to the
hardware combination that works.
Find out what other people use and use that information as a guide.

If game work fine but other "regular programs" are sluggish, my guess
is you have something wrong with your system.

Hey,

i have a base score of 5 but not really happy with it. :(

i have no idea why do i get only a 5 for my CPU. :( was expecting more than
5. anyone have anyidea about it? or is it really only worth 5?

Jeremy

OK here is my question what is the difference between graphics and gaming
graphics,
My system is this:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.81GHz
Memory 3070MB (3GB) even though i have 8GB installed and the BIOS does
recognize All 8!?!?!?! though i am having the same problem on my XP Partition
so im not sweating that at this time.
Radion X1650 with 256MB
and i my primary drive is a Seagate 500GB SATA300
My scores are:
Processor: 5.3
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 4.6
Gaming Graphics: 4.9
Primary HD: 5.4
I just want to know how to get the graphics score higher, but do not know
and can not find any readings on how to accomplish this. Any suggestions?
THANKS

To be honest I have been looking at going from a single 17" LCD to dual 22"
or 24" LCDs so i am going to upgrade my video card and just want to know what
gets a good rateing, i am very happy with the performance of my X1650 and
will be puting that in another box that i am building up for a family PC but
i just dont want to be limited by my graphics card when i run these monitors.
To be honest i usualy piece computers togather buying parts online mostly and
in local stores on the cheap, when compusa closed i got a 240 asus
motherboard for 85 out the door so not too bad, and that is how i got my 8gb
of ram. i have total cost of right at $220 in 8 gbs of ram. the x1650 i
bought from compusa at 35% off, probably screwed up because it has a VGA and
an HDMI not going to be good for my two dvi montiors.

Showing 5.2 Experience Rating I have:

Processor: AMD X2 Dual 5000+ 5.2
RAM: 2GB DDR2-800 Dual Channel 5.9
Graphics: 1950Pro ATI Radeon Dual DVI 5.8
Primary hard disk: 160GB Sata-2 WD 5.4

You can't use 8Gb's of ram unless you have a 64-bit Operating System
Regardless of Os.
Graphics equals Desktop Aero Your ability to Multitask Applications Etc.
Gaming Graphics is of Course your games. How well this computer performs in
"games for Windows"
type games. Like Crysis ,Halo 2 etc..

Word of Advice Windows can't use more then 3.5Gb's of Ram Unless it's
64-bit. Upgrading is Pointless cause of Compatibility reasons. Its taking
power to operate that ram might as well just remove it. put it to some good
use some where else.
Remember when Upgrading your Video Card you will surely have to upgrade your
power supply. Unless of course you got a nice one in the beginning. Ps' are
the Most Key component thats overlooked. Don't buy cheap. Thermaltake..
antec, pure power are good ones. The heavier it is the better it's made...
capacitors etc... anyways. just remember that video cards draw a lot of
power. My card I forget to plug it the Aux power in and it told me when I
booted on screen that the Aux power wasn't plugged in and to prevent damage
it was disabled... and It's an Actual ATI Radeon 1950Pro.. good card..
Getting high scores plays games freaking awesome. also has Dual Dvi. S-video
out.

after upgrading the sp1 windows does register all 8GB of ram, I do run an XP
Pro 64bit on this system now as well because i found out about that so the
8GB is being put to use, though xp64 does seem to have a few limitations it
is doing ok.
I am runing a 1000wt thermaltake ps I have learned my lesson on power
supplys, the hard way...I will have to pull some memory and see how vista
does because it does register it now im not sure what the deal is.
And it sounds like the radion 1950pro will be my next purchase...have you
tried running dual video cards, if so it the performance worth the extra
price.
I had a client upgrade his video card to an Nvidia, i want to say 6800gt and
it had the aux power and they could not figure out that it had to be plugged
in...

Thanks for the advise
