It depends on what you have installed, and what options/features you require
on the installed apps.
PS WinXP has msconfig.exe which shows startup items and other things
What exactly are you after? It's not how many processes that are running,
as much as what processes they are. Also it depends on what you mean by
bare bones. For example AV programs install services which are essential
for them to run and you should have an AV program running, but then again XP
will run fine without an AV Program.
There is a way to clean boot. You could do that and see what's running to
compare with what's running in your normal configuration.
